The Pavilion is part of Gathering Ground, the collective name for several venues in Hillsborough Park which are managed by Age UK Sheffield. RivelinCo are the official creative partner for the spaces, so several of our activities take place there.
EDITH
Have you ever wanted to be up amongst the clouds?
Edith did, a hot air balloon skydiver, a lady daredevil, an acrobatic aeronautist, a sister, and a good Welsh girl. In 1902 she followed in her famous sister’s footsteps to risk the jump, to fly free, in a breathtaking display that took her breath away.
EDITH is a new theatre show in development based on the true story of Edith Brooks, a female hot air balloon aeronautist who took her final fatal flight over Hillsborough Park in 1902. It will have live music, catchy songs, flights of fancy and funny bits, as it explores the joy of adventure, resilience and risk, and what we all might do for our dreams.
On Saturday 9th November at 5pm the writer of EDITH, Sheffield lass and disabled artist Helen Rice, and some lovely performers, will be hosting a ‘show and tell’ of the project so far at Hillsborough Park Pavillion. We would love you to come and join us! We will be sharing our research into Edith’s story, some snippets from the show, a song or two and a brew. There’ll then be a chance to tell us what you think so your thoughts can help shape how the show develops. The event will last about one hour.
It’s free to attend although optional donations of £3 are welcome. You can just turn up on the day, or you can book a ticket which will help us know how many biscuits we need!
