Artist Support Hub: All About Audio Description

Join Amelia Lander-Cavallo from Quiplash to learn some fun and foundational ways to explore the creative potential of audio description (AD) – an access tool that supports blind and visually impaired people to interact with art, entertainment and more.

In this session, we will spend some time doing practical exercises that introduce you to what AD is and how it can be used. This session is ideal for artists, creative workers and freelancers of all types who have an interest in embedding some access into their practice. This is a great introduction and low pressure way to dip your toe into AD. Come expecting to play, maybe write some things down, maybe move around an bit and hopefully to have lots of fun.

Quiplash is a creative, performance and consulting CIC that looks to take space for deaf disabled and neurodiverse people across the LGBTQQIA+ spectrum. It is led by actual quip married couple Al and Amelia Lander-Cavallo. Quiplash has two strands: performance and art-making that prioritises queer disabled performers and embedded access with a specialism in integrated and creative audio description. Quiplash also works as access consultants and trainers in audio description, disability justice and disability awareness.

The event will take place at Soft Ground, 37-41 The Moor, Sheffield S1 4PF. You’ll find it between the EE shop and Clarks. The venue is on the first floor. It has lift access and an accessible all gender toilet. It has windows that open to the outside. Hot drinks will be available. Please do not attend the event if you are having symptoms of contagious illness or Covid-19.
