339 Middlewood Road

Our new HQ is a shop front on Hillsborough High Street. Before we moved in it had been empty for over 20 years! The space is our office and meeting space, and it’s also available to hire for community or artistic activities, on a pay-what-you-can basis.

Visiting the RivelinCo space

Access Overview

The building is old and has some limitations. This means it is not as accessible as we would like it to be. We are committed to improving accessibility however we can. Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to discuss your access requirements. Our access lead is called Emily Thew and you can contact her at access@rivelinco.org, or call our office on 0114 327 1670.

  • The front door is normally locked and you should ring the doorbell. Someone will come to meet you and let you in.
  • The front door has a lever handle and can be quite heavy and difficult to open from the outside. A RivelinCo staff member will open it from the inside for you.
  • The door is 73 cm wide and there is a one step up to it. The step is 25 cm high.
  • There is a portable ramp at the shop. RivelinCo staff can set this up for you if you need it. There is no handrail.
  • Most standard wheelchairs require a door width of at least 80cm. Our door is narrower than this and so the shop may not be accessible for wheelchairs. It may also be too narrow for some pushchairs and prams. If you would like to check this in advance, please contact us.
About the space
  • The front room of the shop has a laminate wood floor and large windows facing on to the high street and road. The windows do not currently have blinds.
  • The room measures 325 cm across from the edge of the sofa to the opposite wall. The room measures 540cm lengthways from the front wall to the back wall.
  • There is overhead lighting which is not dimmable.
  • There are sockets along both walls and in the ceiling.
  • There is some traffic noise from the road outside. The space is shared with staff using the office, which is a separate room next door but not sound-proof.
  • There is an electric heater which plugs into the wall. It is able to heat the whole room.
  • There is no induction loop.
  • Hand sanitiser is provided. Masks are available and will be worn by staff on request.
  • There are 12 cushioned chairs, some with arms and some without. These chairs are stackable and can be moved around.
  • There are 4 tables with folding legs. These tables can be moved around and are quite light. The table height is 70cm.
  • There is a three-seater sofa against one wall. There is also one bean bag chair.
Access to kitchen, toilet, and rear of shop
  • There is access to a small kitchen through the RivelinCo office.
  • A door in the back wall of the shop front opens into the office space. The door is 71cm wide. There is one step up to the door. The step is 13cm high.
  • The kitchen is reached by moving straight ahead through the office space. The passage through the office is 80cm wide and approx 4m long. There is another door into the kitchen from the office. This door is 70 cm wide. It has one step up to it and the step is 15cm high.
  • To reach the toilet and the back door of the building you exit the kitchen through a rear door. This door is 70 cm wide and has one step up to it. The step is 17cm high. There is a short passage through to the toilet which has storage shelves down one side. The passage is 95cm wide. The toilet door is to the left, and the back door is straight ahead.
Kitchen Facilities
  • The kitchen is very small and narrow and contains a fridge, a sink, cupboards with cups, plates, and glasses, and a microwave and toaster.
  • There is also an electric hob, and we have a few basic pans and utensils.
Dogs and service animals
  • The space is dog-friendly, and sometimes a member of staff brings a dog to the office.
  • Service animals are welcome in the shop and we can give them water.
