We worked with artist Grace Jandrell and several community groups local to the Ponderosa, to co-design and develop a large-scale mural for the old boiler house. Councillors were keen to deter graffiti and anti-social behaviour, and encourage more community pride in that part of the park.
We led co-design workshops with Netherthorpe Primary School, the Ponderosa Nature Group, Zest Conversation Club and Youth Club, and the local TARAs, as well as some open access public sessions in the park. Over 100 people fed into the design: from sharing local wildlife and plants with the artist, to coming up with placement and colour ideas, to voting on the final design.
The mural was completed in June 2025, and in July we held an opening party for the community. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place with Tom Hunt, Walkley Councillor and Leader of Sheffield City Council, alongside music and inclusive family activities. Over 250 local people attended to celebrate the new mural.
