Join ceramic artist Marnie Waghorn at the Bradbury Makers’ Shed and learn handbuilding techniques for working with clay. You don’t need to have any experience and we have everything you need! Have a go at making tiles, pots, and vases, and then decorate and glaze them too.
If you attend more than one session you’ll be able to decorate and glaze your own pieces that you made in previous sessions, but there’s no requirement to attend every session. There will always be spare pieces available to decorate and glaze each week so you can come along to just one of the workshops if you prefer.
Find more details about what will happen each week below:
15 September (Week One): Learn to make tiles and pinch pots
We’ll press plants into slabs of clay to create imprinted hanging tiles and learn how to make poppy seed heads from pinch pots.
22 September (Week Two): Learn slip decoration and how to make coil platters
We will decorate tiles using coloured slips and learn how to make coil platters. Spare tiles will be available for those who haven’t attended a previous session.
6 October (Week Three): Learn to make coil pots
We will make vases with decorative coil designs.
13 October (Week Four): Surface decoration and slab building
We will decorate coil platters using coloured slips and carving back into the clay, and we will learn how to make slab built cylinders (cups or vases). Spare platters will be available for those who haven’t attended a previous session.
20 October (Week Five): Slip decoration and carving
We will decorate pieces using coloured slips and carving back into the clay. Spare pieces for decoration will be available for those who haven’t attended a previous session.
Sessions take place on Thursdays, 12:30pm – 2pm. Please note there is no session on Thursday 29 September.
